The Ice House

Nikon D700, Nikon 28-70 f/2.8, 56mm, f/22, ISO 100, HDR, 9 exposures

I have photographed this scene many times over the years, and I have never not been awed by its’ beauty. This former ice house is located in Hollis, NH at the Woodmont Orchards, which is now Town owned conservation land. This original ice house was built in 1932 from rough hewn lumber that was fitted together in no particular pattern and secured with flathead steel nails. Years of neglect made this structure unsafe. The original was razed and replaced with an exact duplicate (pictured here) in 2008.

Mark Garbowski - The red of the house, although muted, really pops out of the naturally non-chromatic surroundings.

murphyz - Reminds me of the poem by Marvell “The grave’s a fine and private place, But none, I think, do there embrace.” It certainly looks cold there!
